The first time I stepped foot into Don Filippo, I was immediately amazed by the sheer size of the restaurant. When I heard that it’s one of the top pizzerias in town, I knew I just had to stop and give it a try.
Upon entering, I noticed that the decorations were unique and modern – with a chic rustic vibe. The wait staff was extremely friendly and accommodating, happily taking us to our table.
Once at our table, we immediately ordered their famous pizza – and boy oh boy! It did not disappoint one bit! The dough was perfectly crispy on the outside yet soft and fluffy on the inside – a true work of art. With each bite, you can taste the freshness of each ingredient in every slice. From the juicy tomatoes to melted cheese toppings, this pizza was like heaven on earth.
As if this wasn’t enough, Don Filippo has some of the most delicious sides too! We opted for some garlic breadsticks which were so good we asked for more. And let’s not forget about their delicious tiramisu for dessert – decadent and creamy with just the right amount of sweetness.

#3 San Matteo
- Serves alcohol
- Offers dessert
- Has some vegetarian options
This charming Italian restaurant offers a great atmosphere and delicious pizza. The crust was nicely cooked and had just the right amount of crunch. But what truly sets San Matteo apart from the competition is their incredible topping combinations – something I have yet to find elsewhere.
The standout for me has to be the Prosciutto e Funghi, a white pizza topped with mushrooms, prosciutto and truffle oil. The smoky flavors of the ham paired wonderfully with the earthy taste of the mushrooms, all complemented by the fragrant truffle oil. It was truly a treat!
I also sampled their Margarita pizza which was equally delightful, as well as their classic Marinara. All of these dishes were incredibly tasty and were well balanced in flavor.
In addition to amazing food, San Matteo’s service is top notch! The staff were friendly and attentive – they really made my experience memorable!
So if you are looking for the best pizza on Upper East Side then look no further than San Matteo! You won’t be disappointed!
#4 San Matteo Pizzeria e Cucina

- Nice tourist spot
- Serves alcohol (and hard liquor!)
I walked in to the restaurant and was immediately impressed. The atmosphere was inviting and the staff was very friendly. As a traveling food critic, I’m always aware of my surroundings and San Matteo Pizzeria e Cucina did not disappoint.
The menu specialties were varied and mouth watering. The pizza selection ranged from classic Italian recipes such as Neapolitan, Roman-style, and Sicilian pies, to more modern creations like margherita, romana, and calzone. I decided to try a few different types of pizza to get an overall impression — after all, one man can only eat so much pizza!
It wasn’t long before my order arrived at the table; it looked absolutely delicious! Each slice was perfectly cooked with just the right amount of cheese and toppings. Not only that but the flavor profiles were unique and unforgettable; it was obvious that San Matteo prides themselves on quality ingredients.
The end result? Absolutely amazing pizza! It’s no wonder why this restaurant is so highly rated; they know how to serve up some good old-fashioned Italian pizza! If you’re ever in Upper East Side looking for the best pizza around – look no further than San Matteo Pizzeria e Cucina!
#5 Marinara Pizza
- Has some vegetarian options
I remember the first time I saw this place and how pleasantly surprised I was. The building itself is quite unassuming, but there’s a certain magic to it that can’t be denied. Inside you’ll find an eclectic decor with a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
The pizza itself is something else entirely. It’s made with fresh dough every single day, giving it a light and fluffy texture. The crust stays crunchy even when it gets cold! And they don’t skimp on the toppings either – each slice is full of flavor and color.
But the most amazing part about Marinara Pizza is that they make their own sauce from Uglio tomatoes grown in Italy, giving it a true Italian flavor that simply can’t be found anywhere else.
To sum up my experience at Marinara Pizza in one word: delicious! This small restaurant is dishing out some of the best pizza I’ve had in Upper East Side – or anywhere else for that matter!

My first experience walking into Mariella Pizza was delightful. It’s quaint, welcoming atmosphere had me feeling like I was part of the family. I even got a warm hello from the owner.
The menu at Mariella Pizza is spot on! From classic Margherita to creative concoctions like Cheesy Potato, there’s something for everyone. And if you can’t decide, they offer build-your-own pizzas so you can pick and choose exactly what you want.
But while the menu is great, it’s the pizza itself that stole my heart. The crust was perfectly cooked – not too crunchy and not too soft – and it was loaded with flavor. The sauce was bright and tangy, and the cheese melted just right into all those delightful toppings. Whether your tastes lean toward classic pies or unique combinations, each bite of Mariella Pizza is pure perfection!
