Portable Pizza Oven: Which One Suits Your Needs
I love going on a picnic. There is nothing unusual about that as many people like doing it. Don’t you enjoy picnicking?
Nonetheless, there is one particular problem that is associated with picnics, that comes to me at the very least. This is that another picnic always means another barbeque party. When you decide on an outing with your friends, your options shouldn’t be only a measly potato salad, dull chips, boiled eggs, or the ever-present barbeque meat.

No-no, don’t take it the wrong way, I love my barbeque picnic parties, but pizza fanatics never get any love on such occasions. We, pizza junkies, have to take care of our pizza-eating habits ourselves. Thankfully to an invention called a portable pizza oven, making a pizza outdoors is not that hard. There are so many of these ovens that the only issue here is the one of choice.
Don’t go scrounging through the internet for the best portable oven and getting overwhelmed too fast. There is no need in that, as I and my extensive experience with various ways of pizza making can help you choose the best pizza oven. Since my trip to Italy in 2014, I’ve tried making pizza with many ovens, and now I can tell you which ones are cheap and reliable, and suit your wannabe cooking skills. So, tie your apron, and let’s search for that best portable pizza oven.
1. A Modular and Portable Outdoor Pizza Oven: Grill Steel 13.75″
This pizza oven comes from a Kickstarter project turned company, Bakerstone. The company has produced intriguing culinary ideas to realize and then deliver the product to the customer. Like, for example, this pizza oven. It produces flavorful pizzas with a perfectly cooked crust.
Grill Steel 13.75″ comes in a pretty hefty box. Inside you can find a manual, a carrying bag for the oven, and the disassembled oven itself. There is nothing unusual about the manual. However, I do recommend familiarizing yourself with it, as the oven is not compatible with all of the gas grills. The bag is of excellent quality, so you will feel secure when you put the oven inside it. The pizza oven comes disassembled, but the process of assembly is not very hard – all you need is a screwdriver and 10 minutes at maximum. The metal parts are firm and do not bend, which is always a good sign for me.
One of the most prominent features of this oven is that it is modular: it transforms the usual 3-burner and larger gas grills into a pizza-making monster. The pizza oven’s design boosts the power of the gas grill, on which it sits. I never thought that reaching 900F on my old gas grill was possible, but this oven accomplishes this feat. This oven is perfect for those who already have a barbeque gas grill but want more options and a bigger temperature range to work with.
One drawback to this oven is, of course, its size. If you’re an advocate of pizzas with diameters larger than 14”, then I have some bad news for you. No pizza bigger than 14” can fit inside the oven, but if you value quality over quantity, then I highly recommend considering going for the Grill Steel 13.75″.
Grill Steel 13.75″ is extremely easy-to-use:
- Set it on top of your grill.
- Turn the burners on the grill to HIGH.
- Wait approximately for half an hour.
- Put the pizza inside and don’t forget to rotate it, as it ensures your pizza is evenly baked.
The oven is accessible, especially if you already have a grill.
- Simply place on a grill and bake gourmet pizza in 2-4 minutes (performance may vary by grill)
- Bakes pizza, breads, roasts meats, vegetables and fish
- Converts most 3 burner and larger gas grills and large charcoal or pellet grills into a pizza oven
- Doesn’t take too much space;
- Works well with a lot of grills;
- Can reach extreme temperatures;
- Easy to install;
- Extremely durable.
- It is on the heavier side;
- Not suitable for 15” pizzas.
2. How about Returning to Roots? A Portable Wood Burning Pizza Oven: Ooni 3 Portable Wood Pellet Pizza Oven W/ Stone and Peel, Stainless Steel
The brand of Ooni has come about recently, in 2012. Ooni was created as a result of a couple’s strong desire to bring everyone great pizza. The married couple transformed the market of portable pizza ovens with their invention, the portable wood-fired pizza oven.
What you get in the package is the Ooni 3 pizza oven, door, chimney, wood pellet burner, stone baking board, and manual. Nothing too unusual except for the wood pellet burner. This set that makes baking-ready from the start just needs to add some wood.
Yes, the oven is insanely fast at heating up. Ten minutes and you are already at 900F. The pizza needs only 60 seconds inside. The oven’s insulated body makes it almost impossible for heat to dissipate. The simple design lets the creators focus on the technical aspects of the oven.
The only problem arises with acquiring the suitable wood pellets and keeping up the flame.
You can start cooking by sliding out the combustion chamber and filling it with cooking pellets. Then you wait for 10 minutes and put the pizza in. This way, pizza gets the perfect crust and doesn’t get burned. After you light up the pellet burner, you better have enough wood, because you can easily lose the gained temperature as well as waste wood and pizza.
This wonder-oven is worth the money you spend on it to the last cent. The quality of pizza that you can produce with this oven is incomparable to the one-time cost of the oven.
- Ooni 3, our award-winning wood fired pizza oven, is one of the most innovative cooking gadgets in the pizza ovens world
- Perfect for your outdoor patio or garden, the Ooni 3 portable pizza oven cooks delicious pizzas in just 60 seconds
- Heats up to 932ºF in just 10 minutes and runs on energy-efficient, sustainably sourced wood pellets
- Lightning-speed cooking;
- Easy to carry;
- Restaurant-quality pizzas.
- It uses wood pellets.
3. Betty Crocker BC-2958CR Pizza Maker, 1440 Watts, Red – a Great Portable Electric Pizza Oven
The Betty Crocker company is quite a well-known and popular one that delivers a wide range of culinary products, ranging from fudge brownies to pizza ovens. Betty herself is a frequent guest in many American kitchens. So, Betty Crocker has been proving the high quality of its products for almost a century now and will be demonstrating it for decades to come.
Betty Crocker BC-2958CR Pizza Maker comes in a relatively small box with a manual to boot. The pizza-making unit is black and has a somewhat minimalistic design. It is made out of stainless steel and feels very firm.
Outside of being very easy to use, the oven is multifunctional. I have cooked in there everything from chicken nuggets, to omelets and quesadillas. The oven is extremely versatile, but it doesn’t impact the quality of the pizzas. Pizzas turn out crisp with the golden crust covering the chewy dough. Additionally, it is entirely electrical, which makes it great for exactly those pizza enthusiasts that are not particularly fond of cooking pizzas.
The biggest disadvantage is that the outer parts of the oven get rather hot after cooking, so be careful and always use oven mittens.
Using the Betty Crocker BC-2958CR Pizza Maker is as natural as brushing teeth:
- Plug the cooker in.
- Put the pizza in the oven.
- Set the needed temperature.
- Rotate a pizza.
Betty Crocker BC-2958CR Pizza Maker costs which is insanely low for such a fantastic product. It is a steal for such money!

4. For All Your Picnic Needs: Blackstone Outdoor Pizza Oven for Outdoor Cooking – Electric Ignition – 2x Faster Than Other Pizza Ovens
Blackstone is a company of food lovers. It began with a big desire to bring people closer through the most commonly liked thing in the world – tasty food. They didn’t disappoint with their products and grew to be trusted by thousands.
Despite the Blackstone Outdoor Pizza Oven looking like it’s a portable pizza oven trailer, it comes in a standard-sized box. Inside, you will find a multitude of the oven’s parts along with the manual.
What are the benefits of using this pizza oven? The oven’s burner has a BTU of 60,000. It solved the usual ignition problem by automating it as it has a rotisserie motor. You can fit up to 16” pizzas in there, satisfying all your and your friends’ pizza-eating desires. Although the pizza oven seems quite big and menacing when assembled, I can assure you that it is portable, as advertised.
Blackstone Outdoor Pizza Oven is, nonetheless, not for everybody, as it is quite heavy.
This oven is really easy to use:
- Place the oven at a required place in the yard.
- Set and check the needed temperature. Wait for 5-10 minutes.
- Put the pizza in and cook.
Blackstone Outdoor Pizza Oven comes for a fair price for a professional-quality pizza oven.
UPDATE: Unfortunately, Blackstone has stopped manufacturing pizza ovens so if you want this one, you’ll have to buy it used (probably from eBay or locally).
- Heats up and cooks quickly;
- Automated ignition and rotisserie;
- On wheels.
- Assembly can be a mindbender.
5. Camp Chef Artisan Pizza Oven 90 Is a Portable Wood-Fired Pizza Oven!?
Camp Chef was established in the not-so-near yet not-so-far year of 1990 and has already earned the title of an industry-leading manufacturer. They have gained far-reaching customer trust with their high-quality products.
The Camp Chef Artisan Pizza Oven 90 comes in a heavy but small box. In it, you get the usual package with a nice addition: the manual, the disassembled oven, and the Italia Pizza Oven Cooking Guide with recipes. In comparison to Grill Steel 13.75″, Camp Chef Artisan Pizza Oven 90 has a “rougher” design, thanks to its metallic/steel look. I am very experienced in pizza-making. However, I can see people reading through recipes and taking a lot out of them. The methods are detailed and easy to follow.
Again, this is another excellent opportunity to utilize your gas grill. By buying this pizza oven, you are cost-efficient. This pizza oven offers not only a built-in temperature gauge, but it can fit a 15” pizza. Its open-face design makes this pizza oven cook like a wood oven, transforming it into a portable wood pizza oven. It is made of stainless steel, which is mind-boggling at this price point. Folks at Camp Chef are being very generous by basically giving this pizza oven away for its price.
One issue is that this pizza oven can take a bit longer to heat up on windy days because of the opened face design.
It is not a challenge to cook with this oven:
- Place it on a stove, where the burners are not set on HIGH.
- Wait for it to be preheated.
- Cook the pizza.
- An amazing option, in my opinion.
- Fits all Camp Chef 16" Cooking System stoves
- Opened face pizza oven cooks like a traditional wood-fired brick oven, Fully adjustable heat allows for cooking several styles of pizza including artisan,...
- Ceramic stone pulls outer moisture off dough and promotes perfect crust, leaving the inside moist and fluffy, Pizza stone made of cordierite ceramic
- Firm, reliable materials;
- Temperature gauge;
- Easily cleanable.
- Pizzas require rotation to be evenly baked.
6. Need a Portable Propane Pizza Oven? How about Camp Chef Italia Artisan Pizza Oven?
Another product from the reliable and trusted Camp Chef, another useful culinary item to be had at your disposal.
The package is similar to Camp Chef Artisan Pizza Oven ’90s, but the main item differs. Instead of the oven module that needs a grill, we have a complete, self-sustaining, working pizza oven. All it needs to work is propane. The previously mentioned book with recipes and manual is, of course, included in a slightly bigger box this time around.
Camp Chef Italia Artisan Pizza Oven is an incredibly useful pizza oven. There is no need to disassemble it when transferring the oven to some new place and it heats up quite quickly due to its size. The oven is light and easily transportable by one person. It is perfect for lovers of small, 10” pizzas that you can eat in a couple of bites. In addition to pizzas, the oven can produce high-quality pies too.
For some people, the size of the cooking space can be a problem. The biggest pizza size that you can fit inside Camp Chef Italia Artisan Pizza Oven is a 12” pizza.
Using this pizza oven is not a riddle:
- Connect the propane tank.
- Set the temperature.
- Put the pizza in.
- You will have to give $512 to buy this one. I recommend this oven to advanced pizzaiolos.
- Perfect for pizza, baking breads, roasting meats and more, Double layered ceiling enhances heating dynamics, bakes like a brick oven, Preheat and ready to...
- Built-in temperature gauge monitor internal air temperatures, Oven can reach temperatures upwards of 700° F
- Stainless steel construction is easy to clean, Ventilated oven door with handle
- Easily transportable;
- Nice monotone look;
- Doesn’t lose heat;
- Minimal assembly required.
- No bigger than 12” pizzas.
7. You Put Your Pizza in Hamilton Beach 31700, 12 Inch Cooker, Red Pizza Maker and Forget about It for 30 Minutes
This pizza maker is a creation of an internationally known brand Hamilton Beach, which is a long-time competition of Cuisinart. Hamilton Beach always tries to one-up its competitors, which is why Hamilton Beach has a long list of products, including coffee makers, panini presses, slow cookers, etc. They gain their customer trust by continually listening to their clients and their reviews, which is not done successfully by many companies.
When you order the Hamilton Beach 31700, 12 Inch Cooker, Red Pizza Maker you get exactly what you order. The pizza maker has a nice red color. It has a window to look at how your pizza is preparing, how the tasty cheese is bubbling on the golden crust. On top of it, there are two toggle switches, allowing you to control the pizza-making process.
The best part about this item is that you can turn it on and leave it until the pizza is done: this pizza oven has a cooking timer. It is very energy-efficient, can cook dishes, including bruschetta, pizza rolls, and appetizers. It can rotate the food, making the heating even.
Despite the pizza oven’s ability to cook types of food other than pizza, you won’t be able to heat anything that is relatively tall.
Here is how to use it:
- Place the oven on a dry surface.
- Place your pizza on another baking pan.
- Put the baking pan on rotating surface and plug in the oven.
- Set the needed temperature and time.
- After the timer sound, unplug the oven and enjoy your pizza.
- Although it is a simple pizza oven/maker, the price is $59, which puts it on the pricier side of similar products, but its quality is worth it.
- Hot & delicious pizza, snacks & appetizers
- Cooks a 12 inch pizza
- Rotates for even cooking
- Minimum hassle;
- Electricity-based, eco-friendly;
- Nonstick glazing.
- Not for all foods.
8. Pizza on Kettle Grill? Made in USA KettlePizza Basic Pizza Oven Kit for 18.5 and 22.5 Inch Kettle Grills, KPB-22
Kettle Pizza is a relatively new brand, being established in 2010. The company was created by a grilling enthusiast that was immeasurably annoyed by the grill lids and how they released stored heat. Attacking this problem created the product called Kettle Pizza.
If you’re an owner of a kettle grill, then this is the product for you. There are a couple of kits to choose from. You get with the basic package the stainless steel pizza oven sleeve for kettles, wood handles, high-temperature thermometer, and aluminum pizza pan. In the deluxe kit, you get additionally a hand-crafted Cordierite pizza stone and either a wooden or an aluminum pizza peel.
As anyone can guess from the name, this item works with all 18.5” and 22.5” kettle grills. Outside of kettle grill transformation, it can reach 900F without a face door. This makes pizza making easy and fast, even in a windy environment. It saves heat very effectively, as a result of its smart design.
Operating the pizza oven kit is comically easy: all that is needed from you is to put the pizza oven sleeve on the kettle grill and then instead of handling the kettle grill the usual way try putting a pizza inside.
This Kit is almost perfect. The only issue is the price, but, considering it is a unique product, the price is understandable.
- Transforms 22.5" kettle grills like Weber One Touch Gold or Silver into a pizza oven.
- Heat remains stable because lid does not need to be removed to access food.
- Made of 20 gauge, 304 grade stainless steel. Made in USA.
- Suitability with most kettle grills;
- Incredibly light;
- Achieves incredible temperatures.
9. Mont Alpi MAPZ-SS Table Top Gas Pizza Oven, Large, Stainless Steel Makes Pizzeria at Home Possible
Mont Alpi is probably the least known contender on our list. This brand focuses on making our little backyard parties more fun. Their passion for creating outstanding grilling products can be felt in the quality of their products.
If you buy this tabletop pizza oven, you’ll get the nicely packaged product and a manual to help you understand the oven’s inner workings. The oven has a shiny look because it is made entirely out of stainless steel.
The oven heats up well, and it’s being high allows to cook even bread, a feature many other pizza ovens cannot provide. When I was cooking with this monster, the pizza turned out delicious: the dough – fluffy, and then the crust was crunchy just the right amount. I recommend preheating the oven to a very high temperature and turning the heat down when putting the pizza in.
The only problem that I noticed is that due to the pizza oven not having insulation, the outside will get hot when cooking a pizza.
Easy procedure to use the oven:
- Heat to the needed temperature.
- Put the pizza on the stone and close the door.
- Cook a pizza.
- This is the decent mid-range tabletop oven.
- Portable pizza oven
- Stainless steel
- 12001 BTU burns hot when required
- Great heat distribution;
- Reaches impressive temperatures;
- Able to cook tall foods.
- Outsides get very hot.
10. Pizzacraft PC0601 Pizzeria Pronto Stovetop Pizza
Pizzacraft is a brand that offers a range of pizza-oriented products, including pizza stones, peels, seasoning, cookbooks, screens, and, of course, various kinds of pizza ovens. Additionally, Pizzacraft is well-known for being one of the more honest companies and admitting fault where it is present.
This oven comes disassembled alongside the manual in a dull box. The oven has a red top part and a black bottom part. A Philips screw and 10 minutes of your life are enough to assemble the oven.
Pizzacraft PC0601 is a great solution for those who want to cook a pizza on a regular stove. This kind of preparing a pizza allows avoiding going outside and trying to figure out how to set up your portable pizza oven.
All you need to do is turn on the gas stove, put the Pizzacraft PC0601 on, preheat it, and put the pizza in.
The stovetop pizza oven has its limitations and cannot compete with other members of this list, but it is not the aim of this product. The main goal of this product is to create yummy pizzas without too much hassle.
- Bake restaurant-quality homemade pizza on your gas stovetop
- Pre-heats to hotter than a conventional oven in under 15 minutes, up to 600F
- Cooks pizza in only 6 minutes
- Excellent solution for homemade pizza;
- Easy to keep;
- No inconveniences;
- Temperature control.
- Cannot work with induction stoves;
- Can be considered slow.
11. Looking for a Great Portable Pizza Oven Propane? Pizzacraft PizzaQue PC6500 Portable Outdoor Pizza Oven!
This is another entry from Pizzacraft. This time, the oven is designed outdoors and is propane-based. It preheats for 15 minutes and cooks a pizza in only 6 minutes.
The kit is very similar to PizzaQue PC6500’s stovetop compadre: the only difference being that the oven parts are diverse. This oven is completely black with a bright red toggle switch, and it looks barebones, which I know can be a problem for some people. Putting the oven together also created a bit of a problem for me.
I found Pizzacraft PizzaQue PC6500 a reliable variant to choose from if all you want to do is to have a great time with your friends. Just hook it up to a propane tank, light it up, and go with it. A built-in thermometer lets you easily keep track of the food being prepared. I like ovens that are less complicated, which allows concentrating on the pizza-making rather than getting caught up in which of the 30 modes to use this time.
Pizzacraft PizzaQue PC6500 is one of the cheaper options for propane portable pizza ovens.
Pizzacraft appears to be going out of business as all of their stock is gone on their own website (and most of it on Amazon). You can still grab a similar one on Walmart for the time being…
- Easy to store;
- No inconveniences while cooking.
- Complicated assembly;
- Arguable design.
12. The Intriguing Presto 03430 Pizzazz Plus Rotating Oven. Is This Pizza Oven Portable Electric Solution For You?
Presto is a highly-regarded and long-established brand. The company started in 1905 with manufacturing pressure cans and has continued with creating various cookers up until today. Not a lot of brands can keep going for more than a century, evolving with the market. But Presto did it successfully and in this manner achieved the respect of many customers.
Presto 03430 Pizzazz Plus Rotating Oven is another innovation from Presto that comes in a small box. The contents of the box are simple: the oven, the plate, and the ever-present manual. The assembly of the oven is as easy as it gets. Put the plate into the plate holder in the oven – congratulations, you are done. The oven itself looks like a Darth Vader’s helmet with a gap.
I thought that Presto 03430 Pizzazz Plus Rotating Oven looked like a gimmick, and I bought it for fun initially. However, I was pleasantly surprised to see it cooking a pizza. The process is quite fun to watch. The spinning almost hypnotizes you, no joke. You can use it as entertainment when having people over.
There is one particular drawback to this pizza oven – the pizza doesn’t come out as hot as would have come out of a more traditional oven. However, being so easy to use makes up for any other disadvantage.
Steps to use it:
- Put the oven on the dry surface.
- Place the pizza on the pan.
- Plug in.
- Set the temperature.
- Enjoy the process.
- Rotating tray turns continuously to assure even baking.
- Top and bottom heating elements bake foods from both sides. Heating elements are separately controlled, allowing you to select top, bottom, or both...
- Timer signals end of cooking time and automatically turns off heating elements.
- Looks like a gimmick;
- Not as hot as oven-cooked pizzas.
13. Pizzacraft PC6000 Pizzeria Pronto Portable Outdoor Pizza Oven: Not A Portable Brick Pizza Oven – Works Just the Same
Pizzacraft PizzaQue PC6000 is the biggest brother of the 3, being the most expensive and filled with the most features. It preheats to 700F in just 10 minutes and cooks the pizza in 5. Unlike PC6500, Pizzacraft PC6000 Pizzeria Pronto has a heat-containing visor and reflection plate made out of stainless steel, which makes it better at heating up and keeping the heat.
The pizza oven comes with a manual and an adaptor for 1lb propane tanks. This pizza oven is entirely black and glossy. Removing the red button from the design makes it definitely more delightful to look at. The kit contains a rain cover.
I have experienced cooking with it, and I have to say that it is, in fact, a step up from PC6500. PC6000 Pizzeria Pronto cooks faster, it has a nicer design, and it assembles easier.
Again, the main issue with this oven is its size. 12” pizzas are the maximum that it can do.
The process of cooking is as simple as ABC:
- Depending on the type of your pizza set the temperature.
- Wait for 5-10 minutes.
- Put the pizza in.
- Control the cooking process.
Pizzacraft appears to be going out of business as all of their stock is gone on their own website (and most of it on Amazon). You can still grab this one on Walmart for the time being…
- Fast heating up to high temperatures;
- Worry-free cooking;
- Easy assembly;
- Attractive design.
- Cannot work with induction stoves.
14. Another Portable Gas Pizza Oven: Cuisinart CPO-600 Alfrescamore Portable Outdoor Pizza Oven
Cuisinart has innovation at its core. The company has always been known for trying to solve culinary problems in the most technological way. The “honor roll” of Cuisinart’s products and innovations ranges from handheld blenders to cookware, juice extractors, and waffle makers. To say that Cuisinart is a known brand is to say nothing at all.
When you order this oven, you can expect to receive folding pizza peel, recipe guide, cordierite pizza stone, integrated smoke chip cup, and the oven itself. The parts are very firm, do not bend, and the oven is made of stainless steel. Plus, everything is packaged very neatly: a lot of protective foam and cardboard were used when wrapping.
The defining pros of Cuisinart CPO-600 Alfrescamore Portable Outdoor Pizza Oven are quick and easy setup and portability. Setting up this oven is easy, putting the oven on the stand, connecting the propane tank, and pushing the on button. The whole Cuisinart’s package is aimed at being accessible. Even the stone’s glazing makes cleaning up easy. This pizza oven suits heating premade pizzas greatly, making the process painless and absent of frustration.
The only issue exists for those people who like more control in their cooking, as having all of the parameters set up from the get-go can feel pretty limiting.
Here is how it works:
- Place the oven in a windless area.
- Connect the needed tank.
- Set the temperature.
- Put in your pizza.
- For the price it is a great deal in any case.
- POWERED BY YOUR GRILL: The Cuisinart Grill Top Pizza Oven is powered solely by the heat source of your grill. Works with gas, charcoal, or pellet grills.
- CORDIERITE BAKING STONE: The Pizza Oven Box features a cordierite baking stone that helps produce a perfectly cooked crust each time.
- INTEGRATED THERMOMETER: Easily track the temperature of your oven with the integrated thermometer that reads up to 800° F.
- Easy setup;
- Comfortable and useful accessories;
- Easy to clean;
- Easily transportable.
- Glazed surface elongates heating up;
- No bigger than 12” pizzas.
