Best Pizza in Capital Region (Updated Jan 2023)

I’m no stranger when it comes to pizza and I’ve been around the world tasting different styles. But, out of all the flavors, toppings and crusts I’ve tried, nothing beats the pizza in this region!

I wanted to share my experience so I made my way around Capital Region on a mission to find the best pie. After reviewing 11 local pizza places, I’m excited to reveal which one deserves the top spot!

#1 DeFazio’s Pizzeria Albany

When I arrived, I was warmly greeted by their friendly staff and immediately given a selection of their signature pizzas to try. The first one that caught my eye was the “DeFazio’s Special,” which was topped with an abundance of fresh vegetables, pepperoni, and sausage. The crust was thin and crispy with a nice blend of flavors, while the cheese and toppings were cooked to perfection.

The next pizza I sampled was their “Caprese” which featured tomatoes, basil, mozzarella and garlic oil drizzled over the top. This pizza was amazing! The flavor and texture combination blew me away.

Finally, I tried their classic margherita – a classic Italian favorite. It had a beautiful tomato sauce that added a zesty kick to the creamy mozzarella cheese and fresh basil leaves that adorned it. The dough also had a great taste that stood out from all the other flavors on this pizza.

Overall, DeFazio’s Pizzeria Albany is certainly one of the best pizza places in The Capital Region! From their delicious recipes to their attentive staff, DeFazio’s Pizzeria Albany is definitely worth checking out if you’re ever in town!

#2 Marino’s Pizza & Restaurant

From the moment I stepped into the restaurant, I could tell that Marino’s was a great place for pizza lovers. The smell of delicious cheese and sauce filled my nostrils – it was heavenly. Plus, the atmosphere of the restaurant was so inviting and warm, it felt like home away from home!

On to the food – Marino’s definitely delivers on quality. The pizza crust was perfectly cooked with just the right amount of crunch on the outside and soft chewiness inside. And they weren’t stingy on toppings either: their pies had plenty of them without going overboard.

I’m also happy to report that Marino’s serves alcohol, has a kid’s menu, offers dessert (yum!), and is a great tourist spot. Bonus points for all that!

The only downside to my visit at Marino’s Pizza & Restaurant is that they don’t offer delivery; however, if you’re in the area it’s definitely worth swinging by for some seriously amazing pizza.

#3 Sovrana Grocery Bakery & Deli

I had heard about Sovrana Grocery Bakery & Deli from several people in the area, and I knew I had to check it out for myself. From the moment I arrived, I could see that this was a place where quality ingredients were being used to make their pizzas. The pizza was thick and fluffy, with a perfectly cooked crust and just the right amount of cheese.

I can truly say that this is some of the best pizza I’ve had in my travels! The flavors were bold yet balanced, and every bite was packed full of flavor. The toppings were fresh and delicious as well, creating an overall exceptional pizza experience.

The service at Sovrana Grocery Bakery & Deli was also top-notch – everyone was friendly and welcoming. It felt like home!

#4 Marisa’s Place

Let me start by saying that Marisa’s Place is a tiny pizza joint tucked away in a nondescript corner of The Capital Region, but don’t let its size fool you: the pizza here is just as good as any I’ve tried. From the moment I stepped through the door, I was welcomed with a warm smile and friendly attitude.

The atmosphere at Marisa’s Place is definitely on the casual side; there are no fancy tablecloths or elaborate decor here. Instead, you’ll find a simple yet inviting dining room complete with checkered paper table tents. Everything about this place screams “pizza,” and it sets an inviting tone for your meal.

When it comes to the pizza itself, Marisa’s Place does not disappoint. The crust is perfectly thin and crisp without being too doughy or too burned, and the toppings are fresh and flavorful—not to mention generously portioned! To top it all off (quite literally), every pizza is slathered generously with cheese and just enough sauce to enhance each bite without overwhelming it.

Plus, their prices are unbeatable! A single slice of pizza will only set you back two dollars—and trust me, after one bite of their delicious pies, you won’t be able to stop yourself from ordering slice after slice!

In short, if you’re looking for some fantastic pizza in The Capital Region, look no further than Marisa’s Place: they offer some of the best pies I’ve ever tasted!

#5 De Fazio’s

The restaurant is small but it doesn’t lack in quality at all. The staff was friendly from the moment I walked in and the atmosphere was inviting.

The highlight for me, of course, was the pizza. When my first slice arrived, I could tell immediately that it was going to be something special. The cheese was creamy and the sauce had a nice sweetness that balanced out the tartness of the tomato sauce perfectly.

The crust had a perfect crunch on the outside while still maintaining a nice chewiness in the middle. This is crucial when finding great pizza and De Fazio’s delivers!

I highly recommend stopping by this restaurant if you are ever in The Capital Region looking for some great pizza. It’s definitely worth a visit!

#6 Zoya’s/Cusato’s

The pizza here is simply divine. The cheese is perfectly melted, the sauce is just the right amount of tangy, and the crust is always cooked to perfection. The flavors are incredibly robust for a small-town restaurant – I tasted notes of garlic, oregano, and basil that really hit the spot.

Even better yet, Zoya’s/Cusato’s offers so many different varieties of pizza to choose from – you can eat your way through their menu for months and never get bored! From classic pizzas like margherita and pepperoni to unique pies like Mediterranean veggie or Hawaiian BBQ, there’s something for everyone here.

Plus, I love that Zoya’s/Cusato’s makes it easy to get your pizza fix with delivery or takeout options. Whether you want a quick bite in your lunch break or a leisurely dinner with family and friends, they make it easy to enjoy their delicious pizzas wherever you go.

All in all, I would absolutely recommend Zoya’s/Cusato’s if you want what I think is some of the best pizza in The Capital Region!

#7 I Love New York Pizza

I tried their classic Italian style garlic and cheese slices, and I must say they really do live up to the hype. The crust was thin and crispy, with just the right amount of crunch. Not too greasy, and not too dry. And then there was the topping – simply divine! The garlic was fragrant and flavorful, with a hint of nuttiness from the parmesan. And the mozzarella cheese melts in your mouth!

The service at I Love New York Pizza is also top-notch. Whether you’re picking up a slice or sitting down for a full meal, they greet you with a smile and make sure everything is taken care of quickly.

Overall, I Love New York Pizza has some of the best pizza in The Capital Region. If you haven’t tried it yet, you’re missing out!

#8 Blaze Pizza

I was first amazed by the speed at which I was served. My pizza arrived from the oven only minutes after I picked out all my favorite toppings. The flavors were so deliciously balanced, and the crust was perfectly cooked!

At Blaze Pizza, they offer a wide variety of options to customize your pizza, making it truly one-of-a-kind. From classic pepperoni and sausage to creative combinations like arugula and Gouda, there’s something for everyone. An added bonus is that no matter what you pick, you’re sure to get plenty of cheese.

Blaze also serves fantastic sides like cheesy garlic bread and salads. But in my opinion, nothing compares to their chocolate chip cookie pizza—it’s simply divine! I’m telling ya, it’s worth a try.

In conclusion, if you’re looking for the best pizza in The Capital Region then look no further than Blaze Pizza!

#9 Westgate Pizza Bella

I’m serious. I’ve had pizza in Rome, New York, Los Angeles, and even Chicago; but nothing compares to the taste of Westgate Pizza Bella’s hand-tossed pizza.

Their dough is made fresh every morning and their sauce is a zesty combination of herbs and spices that will tantalize your taste buds. As for the toppings? I’m telling you: perfection! Fresh vegetables, succulent meats – you name it, they have it!

And don’t even get me started on their signature deep dish pie. It’s like biting into a cheesy slice of heaven. And be sure to save room for dessert – their chocolate chip cookie pizza is simply divine.

All in all, Westgate Pizza Bella is one of the best pizzerias in The Capital Region – hands down! So if you’re ever in town, be sure to check them out. You won’t be disappointed!

#10 Sweet Willy’s Pizzeria

From the moment I stepped into the doors of this quaint little pizzeria, I was met with smiles and enthusiasm. The ambiance was inviting and the staff was warm and welcoming. The interior had lots of charm, with plenty of seating to accommodate large groups or romantic dinners for two.

When it comes to pizza, Sweet Willy’s has some of the best toppings around! From classic pepperoni to their veggie lover’s delight, each pie is made from only the freshest ingredients. Whether you like your pizza extra cheesy or topping-loaded, every slice will have you wanting more!

But what makes Sweet Willy’s Pizzeria truly stand out is their in-house special creations. They offer a wide range of unique specialty pies that rotate daily, as well as tacos inspired by Mexican cuisine and scrumptious calzones!

When all is said and done, Sweet Willy’s Pizzeria has been crowned my favorite pizza spot in The Capital Region! If you’re looking for a delicious slice of ‘za at an unbeatable price point – look no further than Sweet Willy’s!

#11 Romo’s Pizza

The pizza is fantastic. It’s very thin and light, with a delicious golden crust and flavorful sauce. The toppings are always fresh and the cheese melts in just the right way.

The atmosphere at Romo’s Pizza is also great. It’s a cozy spot where you can chat with friends while chowing down on some of the best pizza in The Capital Region. Plus, they have a few TVs to watch games or whatever your favorite show might be!

Plus, the staff at Romo’s Pizza is really friendly and accommodating. They’re always willing to customize your order if you’re looking for something specific or just want to try something new.

All in all, I highly recommend Romo’s Pizza for anyone looking to enjoy some of the best pizza in The Capital Region. For my money, it’s definitely up there with the best pizza I’ve ever had anywhere!
