#1 The Gypsy Poet
My journey started off with a cheese pizza – it was cheesier than the siren song of a pirate! Every bite was smothered in gooey, melty goodness that made my taste buds do the happy dance.
The next time I visited, I tried their pepperoni and sausage pizza which didn’t disappoint either. The flavors were totally on point – the salty bites of pepperoni brought against the bold flavor of the Italian sausage were truly spectacular.
Their crust is among the best I’ve ever had. It’s just thick enough to hold all that deliciousness without being too bready, but still light and crispy in just the right places. And they definitely know how to cook their pizzas; there wasn’t a single slice that wasn’t evenly baked and full of flavor.
Overall, The Gypsy Poet has some of the best pizza in The Heights! Whether you’re looking for classic cheese, zesty pepperoni, or something more adventurous like their veggie pizza – you won’t be disappointed. Highly recommended for serious pizza connoisseurs!

#2 The Gypsy Poet
- Offers dessert
- Has some vegetarian options
- Serves alcohol
The quality of their pies is unparalleled. The sauce is ever-so-bold, the cheese is gooey and flavorful, and the crust is crispy and light. I’m a fan of their classic Margherita Pizza the most – it’s simple yet expertly crafted with just enough oregano to make your mouth water.
But what really sets The Gypsy Poet apart from all the other pizza restaurants in town isn’t just the quality of their pizza – it’s also the atmosphere. It’s run by an ex-poet who loves to spin yarns about her travels around the world, so you get some great stories while you wait for your food. Plus, they have live music on Tuesdays and Wednesday nights, making it one of my favorite places in town to grab a slice.
If you’re looking for some of the best pizza The Heights has to offer (and perhaps a good story or two) then The Gypsy Poet should be your next stop!
#3 The Purple Flour (Food Truck)
The food truck itself is eye-catching, which adds to the experience. The purple flour of the name refers to their specialty – a deep purple crust made from a mix of specialty flours. It’s crunchy, flavorful and really stands out when compared to other pizzas I’ve had around the world.
I tried their popular “Grandma style” pizza with olives, tomatoes and mushrooms sprinkled atop a generous layer of cheese. The cheese was nice and melty while the vegetables were fresh and flavorful. I don’t usually like olives on my pizza but The Purple Flour managed to make them taste great!
The staff was friendly and helpful as well, making sure I got exactly what I wanted for my meal. The atmosphere is relaxed yet fun and full of customers in need of some amazing pizza. And I promise, you won’t find better quality pizza in the area.

- Has some vegetarian options
The atmosphere at Pepperoni’s is always warm and inviting. The walls are adorned with posters of the restaurant owner’s favorite sports teams, and everyone is always smiling and glad to see you.
I was especially impressed with their signature pizza, the Supreme. Thick crust, loaded with pepperoni, extra cheese, sausage – all the toppings you could want! For lovers of Chicago-style pizza, they also have a deep dish option that will keep you coming back for more.
Their famous garlic breadsticks are delicious too – definitely worth a try if you haven’t tried them yet!

#7 Rocco’s
- Has a kid’s menu

First, let’s talk about the ambiance. I’m not sure if the folks at Rocco’s are trying to create an old-time Italian feel or just a little kitsch, but either way, it works perfectly! The walls are plastered with photos of happy customers, classic Italian posters and framed collages of vintage pizza boxes. And amidst all this nostalgic decor there are always some local musicians playing lively tunes on the back patio.
Now for the important part: the pizza! Every time I visit, I am consistently impressed by their delicious selection of classics like pepperoni, margherita and my personal favorite – the Supreme. Their thin-crust dough is handmade from scratch every day and always cooked to perfection in their wood-fired ovens.
And if you’re feeling a little adventurous, they also have some unique signature pies such as the Hawaiian Blush and Funghi & Gorgonzola which will have your taste buds singing “Mamma Mia!”

The toppings are top-notch too: fresh vegetables and high quality meats that complement the crust to perfection. You can tell it’s made with love, as each bite is full of flavor and exactly what you expect from a great pizza place.
